Providing Professional Rescue Training

RNR provides many Professional Rescue Training Courses such as NFPA and OSHA compliant courses and since the nature of this work is so dynamic and ever changing, RNR offers various comprehensive and customizable courses to fit your needs. (Please contact us for these options). Among these courses are an Industrial Immediate Action Medical course and a Emergency Medical Rescue Tactics (EMRT) course.

RNR believes these both to be two of the most important however, missing components in most all rescue training courses available today to professional and industrial rescuers.

Industrial Immediate Action Medical 

The Industrial Immediate Action Medical, is a rapid intervention course formulated to address traumatic injuries. Adapted to an industrial setting and based on field-medic applications; this course instills recognition and concise management of immediate life-threatening injuries.  When time is of the essence, proper treatment becomes critical and must be executed correctly and rapidly prior to the arrival of professional help.  Procurement of these principles will greatly improve the possibility of delivering a viable patient(s) to the awaiting EMS on scene.

Emergency Medical Rescue Tactics (EMRT)

Emergency Medical Rescue Tactics (EMRT) course is designed to provide diverse rescue techniques for the rope or confined space rescuer regarding traumatic injuries or medical emergencies. These rescue tactics change the response dynamics towards these emergencies as well as addressing demanding environs. Our experienced instructors combined with leading-edge techniques are crucial to your professional rescuers overall emergency response strategy.

Trauma / Medical Training Courses


Immediate Industrial Medical Action (IIAM)

10 Hours (1- 10 hour day)

No Prerequisite 

Course is designed to prepare individuals/teams with little to no medical training or background to respond to immediate medical emergency situations. Significant, imperative, need-to-know actions fill the gap between the hands-on rescue and the arrival of emergency personal (EMS).  Upon completion of the course students will have acquired the knowledge enabling critical life-saving techniques beyond basic first aid and basic life-saving skills for self-aid, and or the individual/team rescuer.

Emergency Medical Rescue Tactics (EMRT)

20 Hours (2- 10 hour day)

Prerequisite Rope Rescue/Confined Space Rescue Operations

This one-of-a-kind course is based on rope and confined space rescue tactics while incorporating emergency medical interventions geared towards municipal fire departments and industrial rescue teams. Students will be challenged with realistic scenarios that focus on the key aspects of rescue techniques and medical interventions needed to sustain, stabilize, and transfer a patient. Students will train on all 6 representative confined space types, rescue from fall protection, and customizable scenarios based on the client’s specific needs. Each rescue scenario will include immediate trauma/medical interventions geared towards patient survival. Based on current National standards, facility protocols and created by experienced rescuers, this course ensures regulatory compliance but also focuses on the skill sets needed for the best possible outcome concerning rescue and patient care.

Municipal / Industrial Basics


Confined Space Awareness

8 Hours (1- 8 hour day)

No Prerequisite 

Geared towards Industrial Facilities and Contractors, this course will present information to students regarding the identification of confined spaces and associated hazards. The class will outline recognizing the need for Confined space search and rescue, initiating contact and establishing communications, performing non-entry rescue, implementing the emergency response system, and implementing site control and scene management. In addition, the students will learn about preplanning a confined space. The class will conclude with a presentation of today’s rescue equipment and their use.

Rope / Confined Space Specialties


Rope Rescue/Confined Space Rescue Operations

50 hours (5- 10 hour days)

No Prerequisite

This course is available as open or private course.

Course is designed to prepare individuals/teams to apply Limited Techniques in Low Angle, High Angle, and Confined Space Environments to meet the requirements of NFPA 1006 (2017) Operations-level, Standards for Technical Rescuer – Chapters 5 & 7 and NFPA 1670 (2017) Operations-level Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents – Chapters 5 & 7.

Skills include: Site Operations, Victim Management, PPE, Rescue Equipment & Maintenance, Ropes/Rigging, Anchor Systems, Rappelling/Ascending, Lowering/Hauling/Belay Operations, Patient Packaging, Confined Space Operations, Controlling Hazards, SCBA/SAR Operations, ICS, and Helicopter Operations.

Rope Rescue/Confined Space Rescue Technician

Course is designed to prepare individuals/teams to apply Advanced Techniques in Low Angle, High Angle, and Confined Space Environments to meet the requirements of NFPA 1006 (2017) Technician-level, Standards for Technical Rescuer- Chapters 5 & 7 and NFPA 1670 (2017) Technician-level Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents – Chapters 5 & 7.

Skills include: Line Transfers, Litter Attendants, High Line Systems, Knot Passing, Preplanning Confined Spaces, and IDLH Confined Space Rescue Scenarios. The final day of the course offers Confined Space & Rope Rescue Technician certification testing based on knowledge and practical skill requirements of NFPA 1006.

This certification is valid for a period of two-years.

VRT - Verify, Refresh, and Train

Length of course is dependent on client’s needs.

No Prerequisite

VRT is a fresh approach for Fire Departments and Industrial Rescue Teams to review and preserve a team’s skill set. First, RNR Rescue will verify the skill level of the rescue team and its members establishing a baseline skill level. Secondly, RNR Rescue will identify and address any weaknesses the team may be experiencing improving the overall efficiency and safety of the team. Last but most importantly, RNR Rescue will expose the team members to new techniques, equipment, and any new regulatory/standard changes.

Rope Rescue/Confined Space Technician Re-Certification

30 hours (3-10 hour days)

Prerequisite: Previous rope/confined space certification         

Re-certification course provides updated regulatory procedures and industry techniques necessary to keep certification current. Course is geared towards practical skill exercises relevant to meeting or exceeding the minimum standards. At the conclusion of the course and certification testing, documentation of individual skills proficiency in accordance with NFPA 1006 (2017)  and NFPA 1670 (2017) will be given. This is a mean to document individual skills proficiency in accordance with OSHA 1910.146  Permit- Required Confined Space Regulation.                   

This certification is valid for two years.

Trench Rescue Technician

30 hour (3- 10 hour days)

Prerequisite: General Rescuer or Equivalent

Course is designed to prepare individuals/teams to apply Advanced Techniques in Trench Environments to meet the requirements of NFPA 1006 (2017) Technical-Level  Standards for Technical Rescuer – Chapter 11 and NFPA 1670 (2017) Technician-level Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents – Chapter 11.

Skills include: Site Operations, Victim Management, PPE and Rescue Equipment Use and Maintenance, Soil Physics & Classifications, Collapse Causes and Types, Protective Shoring and Shielding Systems, Simple Systems, and Patient Removal and Packaging.

This course meets competency requirements for OSHA 1926.650 

This certification is valid for a period of two-years.

Structural Collapse and Shoring Concepts

40 hours, (4- 10 hour days)

Prerequisite: General Rescuer or Equivalent

Course designed to prepare individuals/teams to apply Advanced Techniques in Light-Frame Structural Collapse Environments to meet the requirements of NFPA 1006 (2017), Standards for Technical Rescuer – Chapter 6 and NFPA 1670 (2017) Technician-level Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents – Chapter 6.

This class is built on the premise of utilizing tools and equipment that are already stored on Municipal Fire Department apparatus. Skills obtained include size up, creating an action plan, searching, breaching, cribbing, heavy lifting, and removal of concrete and structural steel, victim extrication.
