Hazardous Materials Awareness

8 Hours (1- 8 hour day)

No Prerequisite
This course is available as open enrollment or a private course. 

This course is intended for employees who may be exposed to hazardous materials meeting the requirements of OSHA 1910(q)(6)(i)

After completing this one-day course, students will be able to encounter an emergency involving hazardous materials. They are expected to recognize the presence of a HazMat, protect themselves, call for trained personnel, and secure the area.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive a Hazardous Materials Awareness certificate.

This certification is valid for a period of two-years.

Hazardous Materials Operations

16 hours (2- 8 hour days)

This course is intended for employees who may be exposed to hazardous materials meeting the requirements of OSHA 1910(q)(6)(ii)

After completing this two-day course, students will be able to identify containers, transportation & facility markings, utilize tools available to plan a response, initiate a response, personal protective equipment donning and doffing, different types of decontamination, defensive control methods, victim rescue & recovery, selecting the proper monitoring and sampling equipment.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive a Hazardous Materials Operations certificate.

This certification is valid for a period of two-years.

Hazardous Materials Technician

40 hours (5- 8 hour days or 4- 10 hour days)

Prerequisite Hazardous Materials Operations
This course is available as open or private course.

This course is intended for employees who may be exposed to hazardous materials meeting the requirements of OSHA 1910(q)(6)(iii) for Technician-level personnel.

After completing this four (10-hour days) or five-day (8-hour days) course, students will be able to respond to emergencies involving hazardous materials for the purpose of analyzing the incident, selecting the proper PPE, procedures for decontamination, developing a plan, and implementing the action options to mitigate the incident.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive a Hazardous Materials Technician certificate.

This certification is valid for a period of two-years.

Hazardous Materials Incident Command

8 to 16 hours (1- 8 hour day or 2- 8 hour days)

Prerequisite Hazardous Materials Technician
This course is available as open enrollment or a private course.

This is intended for employees who may be exposed to hazardous materials meeting the requirements of OSHA 1910(q)(6)(iv) for Incident Command-level personnel.

After completing this course, students will be able to respond to emergencies involving Hazardous Materials (HazMat) as an incident commander and will be responsible for all incident activities, including the development of strategies and tactics, and the ordering and release of resources.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive a Hazardous Materials Incident Command certificate.

This certification is valid for a period of two-years.

Hazardous Materials Refresher

8 hours (1- 8 hour day)

Prerequisite Hazardous Materials Operations or Technician
This course is available as open enrollment or a private course.

This course is intended for employees who may be exposed to hazardous materials meeting the requirements of OSHA 1910(q)(8) for Refresher-level personnel required to receive training annually to maintain their competencies.

After completing this course, students will be able to respond to emergencies involving Hazardous Materials as a Refresher to satisfy the requirement and will be responsible for understanding the training levels
